Kuwait Sets KD 100 Fee to Replace a Lost Kuwaiti Passport
11-10-2026
The Minister of Interior has set the fee for replacing a lost Kuwaiti passport at KD 100. Ministerial Decision No. 1769 of 2026, signed by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah on 22 September 2026, was published in Kuwait Al-Youm Issue 1812, page 36, dated 11 October 2026.
The decision amends item 3 of Article 2 of Ministerial Decision No. 20 of 1971, which sets the fees for certain services of the General Department of Nationality and Kuwaiti Travel Documents. Item 3 now reads: issuing a replacement for a lost Kuwaiti passport, KD 100. The gazette text does not state the previous fee, and it changes no other item.
The decision rests on Law No. 11 of 1962 on passports, Decree-Law No. 1 of 2025 on fees and charges for public facilities and services, and Cabinet Decisions Nos. 871 of 2025 and 1217 of 2026. It takes effect on publication in the Official Gazette, which means from 11 October 2026.
WEFAQ's view: the fee applies only to the replacement of a lost passport, so travellers and companies that arrange travel for staff should treat a lost passport as a cost as well as a delay. Employers who handle passports for staff should keep them in a controlled place and keep copies of the data page.
